My 2015 Wishlist

What do I want from a brand new year?

So, I know it’s a little late seeing as it’s Valentine’s Day, but this list has been a work in progress since the start of 2015. I thought I might start with this as my first blog post as it’s new and fresh and blank.

I decided I wanted to write down a wishlist in place of the usual resolutions that we thrust upon ourselves. I feel like I’ve made quite a lot of big changes over the past year and a half or so, so I really didn’t have a huge list of important things to do – more a list of things I wanted to achieve. And they’re positive wishes – I’ve deliberately used positive verbs and words to make this list doable and fun and exciting. No ‘quitting’, ‘stopping’, ‘giving up’ for me. In fact there’s only one ‘avoid’ in there, and I think it’s quite an important one.

New Year Resolutions

Those big changes I mentioned above involved quitting smoking for good. I started smoking a few years back when I just couldn’t cope with the stress I had in my life at the time. And it wasn’t a habit at first, but inevitably it became one. I made time for those little sticks. I wasted so much time with them. I wrote about my Stoptober experience in a weekly column for the local press and my work , which kept me accountable. I did have a wobbly few months where I smoked again, but now I’ve been off the cigs for a long time. And I can’t ever imagine going back to them.

On the back of this, I took up my running and exercise again. I ran a marathon in October 2014, and raised £1,160 for Crohn’s and Colitis UK. It was one of the things I’m most proud of.

So no, my list isn’t earth shatteringly ambitious, but these are the things that I want to do this year.

  • Get fitter, get healthier
  • Visit Croatia
  • Continue to challenge myself with yoga
  • Alter my diet (little-to-no meat, less nachos…)
  • Run 2 half marathons
  • Read 30 books (minimum!)
  • Make my Mam’s 60th birthday really special
  • Write more
  • Complete 1 knitting project and 1 crochet project
  • Continue saving money
  • Find a job I’m happy in
  • Organise seeing more friends who live faraway
  • Get more photos printed
  • Go to bed earlier! (stop scrolling instagram)
  • Learn to ‘let go’ (sometimes)
  • Send more post to special people
  • Steer clear of negative people
  • Create a blog/writing space
  • Come off medication.

What’s on your 2015 wishlist? Is this the first year you’ve made resolutions, or are you a steadfast resolutioner? Let me know in the comments below!
